Combating the illegal dumping of oily bilge water from vessels in Federal and international waters was the topic of discussion when the Environmental Stewardship Discussion Group met on July 16, 2012

A principal source of water pollution in the shipping industry is the oil sludge and oil-contaminated water generated by virtually all large ships. A magic pipe is a covert change to a ship’s waste-handling equipment to allow waste liquids to be discharged in an infringement of maritime pollution regulations.
